Prion filter may help reduce the risk of humans contracting 'mad cow disease'

A NEW blood filter device could in future prevent people being infected with the human form of mad cow disease through transfusions, it was revealed yesterday.

The technique can effectively remove the rogue prion proteins responsible for transmitting brain diseases such as variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD).

Thanks to recent research I have realized that this is a much bigger and dangerous diease. I think the only responsible thing for the American Agricultural Department to do is to begin testing on cattle sent for slaughter immediately. As a country we need to become more aware and take an active roll in the safety of our food supply. I wholehartedly support any research and testing nessicary in order to save millions of lives through the testing of cattle.
